Doug graduated from the University of Windsor in 1987, with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics. He then went on to graduate from Sheridan College in 1990 with a Diploma in Sports Injury Management. Upon graduation at Sheridan College, he was awarded the Robert Firth Memorial Award for excellence in Athletic Therapy. 

In 2002 Doug graduated from the Canadian College of Osteopathy with a Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice. He was awarded the Louisa Burns Award for excellence in research, upon successfully defending his thesis.

​An extensive background in assessing and treating sports injuries began when he worked with the Toronto Argonauts in 1990 as an assistant athletic therapist. He has also worked with amateur athletes from the community level to the national level in a variety of sports such as hockey, football, figure skating, soccer, gymnastics and dance to name a few.
